Paul Matthew, PhD Candidate, School of Architecture

Paul Matthew is PhD candidate at the University of Queensland School of Architecture.  His research examines the energy retrofit and sustainability potential of older apartment buildings in Brisbane and delves into details of their physical condition, management and maintenance plans and how to best utilise their remaining lifespans.

Paul has been a registered practising architect in South East Queensland since 2006 and has worked on residential projects at all scales, from small alterations and additions through to high rise apartment buildings.

Both his research and practice influence his teaching in energy performance, thermal comfort, construction technology and architectural drawing at the University of Queensland School of Architecture.

At Powering the change, Paul Matthew will present his paper 'Upcycling Australia's older apartment buildings'.

Paul Matthew will be speaking at the session Circular economy in our built environment.
